It's a gamble
You make an interesting point but for the average consumer No-name is a gamble.

If you're in the know you can have the details otherwise you really don't know what you are buying.

I've bought no name and had problems with some and others have been excellent. At the same time I've had similar problems with Panasonic and Sony equipment. Panasonic has supplied me with new DVD player every year for the last 3 years as they die with in the manufacturers warranty time.

My no-name brand had only 30 days warranty and when something goes wrong as DVDROM drive did getting it fixed or replaced was a real pain. My no-name floppy drive has served faithfully for the past 6 years.

It's really a gamble. I don't think I'd gamble on high ticket price item like a 56" plasma TV.
