Hold on there. All this kid was to create a drawing program that interfaces with the iPhone. I am not overly impressed, as he just hooked into the APIs for that thing.

He says that he wants to write an operating system in C and Assembler. Kid, if you want to impress me, white the entire OS in assembler.

Back in the mid 70's, I had a TRS-80, and let a disassembler loose on the ROM BASIC. Why you may ask - to see how it worked. I used to infuriate other TRS-80 users when I gave them a "data disk" (no dos) that somehow had my name and address on them; and refused to tell anyone how I did it. It was not hard, all you had to do was understand HOW a raw track gets formatted; and exactly how the DOS gets loaded by ROM.

Later when a book on the mysteries of that ROM appeared in print; i was able to fill in the missing lines of code, because I had them. In the process, I "killed" a surplus ASR-33 teletype.

Back then, you could dig deep into the internals of an OS, understanding how it works. Today, unless you care to drown in the swamp waters, fudgetaboutit.
