Software is there, CPU's not fast enough.
Chicken and the egg I guess. But the need for much faster CPUs is there, if they could provide them. I agree that if your running mostly office apps the average machine does fine. However, when you move in to real home use (hasn't happened yet) today's CPU's won't cut it.
