I wish

That some of this post had been on topic. Now, my take on politics. I don't care about the 'war on terror' except as an excuse to expand executive power. We do that with the war on drugs. Afghanistan was obvious after 9/11. I guess that sooner or later we would have been in Iraq, I just wish we had been a little smarter on when and how. Neither party is going to roll over or cut and run. We are there, we are going to stay there until the job is done or until we are forced to leave. I don't care about what Kerry or Bush did 20 or 30 years ago. What I do care about is the sharpest sustained increase in the cost of living, the cost of energy, the cost of health care, the cost of just about everything. I care that with the stroke of a pen this administration has eliminated overtime pay at the behest of the business community for hundreds of thousands of wage earners. I care that my source for prescription medications has been forbidden to shop outside of the country for the best price, a savings which had been passed on to me. Given the chance to come down on the side of the drug companies or the consumer, guess who got screwed?. I care about the loss of jobs which still has not been remedied after 4 years. It really doesn't matter to me which party is in power or who is president. What matters is am I doing better than or at least as well as I was 4 years ago. Do I think that I will do better in the next 4 years than the past 4. The answer to both questions, assuming that the party in power stays in power is a resounding NO. I care that Greenspan's call to immediately raise the social security retirement age to 78 has been met with a resounding silence from the hill and the oval office. I care that we have gone from a substantial budget surplus to record deficits, both in terms of total dollars and percentage of our GNP. The incumbent, as a rule easily wins re-election. Why is Bush having such a hard time of it?
