I think the number is higher and this is our future.
We rely on the government and businesses to feed us these numbers and they are the same A55hole5 that are cutting the jobs in the first place. Unemployment Insurance requests only account for a fraction of the people out of work, therefore I think the number is MUCH higher. IT is dead and bleeding in the streets and we keep thinking using the Hubris of the 90s will carry us through but free trade is raping the IT industry the same way that it raped coal miners, factory workers and steel mills. We scoffed back then saying hahah see what you get when you don't get to college? Well? What is the f0cking excuse you are going to give to the people that are 60 grand in debt for a nice flashy college degree for a job that is in Bangalore now?? How long before we start just shooting the bast8rds responsible? I don't see our "democracy" representing the will of the people here but that is no shock since we don't live in a democracy. We have what is known as a "representative republic" problem is our votes don't elect who we voted for and our representatives don't represent us they represent the corporations who bribe them.
History has shown us the only way out of this is through bloody revolution. Since nobody likes that process for obvious reasons(killing is lowering yourself to the despicable tactics of corporations and governments) it will get much worse before it is clear someone needs to get killed at the top instead of at the bottom for a change. Perhaps someone has a better idea when votes don't count and representatives don't represent? And don't say retrain or we will have to kill you first.
