might just be that the newer intel dual core processors would outperform the itaniums anyway for the workstation platform. AND the software considered necesary for 64-bit operating may just be easier to port to a larger product line anyway for 'newer '.. different .. intel 64-bit procesor products.

Pretty obvious with Itaniums out the door from this story. But there is still a corner to turn for both AMD, and Intel processors.

Far as IBM is concerned do they intend to be an AMD shop ?

For now its probably squint and tell. Nice time for a sob 'story though.
