Microsoft President Given Cabinet Rank
(AP) March 17, 2075
President George H. W. Bush IV announced today that the President of Microsoft would be given the new cabinet rank of Secretary of Software.
The designation follows months of negotiations among the President, Congress, and representatives of Microsoft, which provides 82% of all software in use in the world.
In return for the appointment, which is expected to pass Congress almost without opposition, the Federal government has been allocated two seats on Microsoft's Board.
Senator Rupert Pomfret, the best known opponent of the association between the government and the Company, commented, "I don't know why the US government could not get a majority of the seats on the Board. Don't they trust us? We've entrusted our nation's economy to them, and they can't give us one-third of the decision making authority?"
The Microsoft President, Linus Ballmer Shaft, named in honor of the software which cleared Microsoft's path to dominance and of an earlier President of the Company, said in a prepared statement, "We are prepared to work with the government for improvements in the business climate necessary for our nation's industries to rebound, and look forward to all the advantages of closer contact and greater mutual understanding."
At a news conference today, his first in the two years after his landslide re-election, President Bush observed, "I think of the cabinet as the country's Board of Directors. Many companies have interlocking Boards, so why should the US government be any different?"
The public representatives of Apple Computer and OpenSource.org, Microsoft's leading competitors in the home and supercomputer business segments respectively, could not be reached for comment. - Posted by: Anton Philidor Posted on: 09/21/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
