There are and will continue to be fewer jobs in the IT field. It doesn't take nearly as many system architects as it does programmers to develop a product (internal or commercial). Therefore, there will be fewer slots to fill, and those positions will have greater competition. This article still doesn't explain why it would be a good idea for a young person to enter the field, unless perhaps one really enjoys cut-throat job competition and the probability of being dumped when the next younger CS graduate comes along.
