wah wah wah go the baby bells
now the wireless and wired phone companies will have to compete more on QUALITY OF SERVICE and PRICE rather than customers feeling locked in to a phone number because it is painful to switch numbers and then tell all their friends, family, and customers about the new number.
Of course, don't be surprised if any of these phone companies charge you a fee to keep your number (or offer you a rebate if you don't) to help defray the extra equipment costs.
