To really achieve success ...
IBM will need to open up the hardware platform itself, something they've been loathe to do. Look at the position they have taken on blade standardization. Sure, standardize the plugins, but the motherboard? No, never! IBM needs to get a life in this regard. If they would just pump out the processers and open the rest of it up to the Asian clone factories, they could give Intel and AMD a run for the money. But they are clinging to their old (defunct) hardware monopoly. Too bad.
