The Centrino label is only marketing.
It is meaningless. When the first centrino came out, they only supported 802.11b. There were Athlon laptops oout there at that time that had 802.11g wireless and outlasted Centrino for battery life. --Although I have since realized that battery life is often dependent upon the battery manufacturer.

Centrino is as meaningfull as "Intel Inside" which has nothing to do with performance save that any comprable Athlon would cost less and run circles around it.
