Yawner?
If it is such a Yawner then why the hell did it wake up Intel. Intel didn't want to release a X86-64 based chip, but it did. It pretty much copied AMD, but it still released it. You know why, because AMD's chip was so successful and it proved that AMD was marketing at what the consumers wanted. A inexpensive, but fast and reliable 64 bit solution. Intel wanted to the server marked to buy their overpriced Titanic chips. Granted the Itanium performed decently, but it is 2 - 3 times the price of an opteron and really sucks when emulating 32 bit. Now we see Intel copying AMD again with the dual core. The reason Intel gets more press coverage is because Intel has more money and the general public is stupid. Most of the public still think Intel is the only computer processor maker on the planet. These are the same people that will go out and buy a $499 PC and then ***** when they cannot upgrade componants such as video and complain when it performs bad because it is a celeron. They want a KIA to perform like a Corvette. It just ain't happening. If the computer buying public wasn't a bunch of sheep, they would do a little research and realize that at this point in time AMD offers the better value for price/performance. But with Intel using their power to bully computer companies (like DELL) and brainwashing Sales associates at Best Buy to sell Intel, the public has very little choice. All they hear is INTEL, INTEL, INTEL. Most Retail sales associates have about as much computer knowledge as the average fruit fly. I know because I took a tech job at best buy when I got laid off of my IT job in Chicago. I heard all their lies, listened to the Intel rep tell lies to the sheep salespeople and they would reiterate it back to the customer. Oh yeah this $400 PC will be fine as long as you buy my $200 service plan. Thank god I didn't last long their. I moved on to another IT job. It will take AMD a while, but eventually they will get a better foothold on the processor market and Intel will be shaking even more.
