"Intel said that it lowered its guidance... because manufacturers have been burning off inventories of those parts."

You can only get manufacturers to take on inventory so long before they have to stop ordering product to clean off their shelves.

It will be interesting to see if the lagging revenues are due to a slowing economy or increased competition from AMD. I'm usually of the opinion that Intel losses mean AMD gains, but the economy has been swinging back and forth between "recovery" and "recession" for the last few months -- and that could potentially spell bad news for both companies.
