My experience is that being 40+ is a benefit in today's economy. Service positions and 'click the mouse' and low-level support positions are going to the young ones and those 'offshore' centers, but nothing prepares you for a job more than experience. Take that experience and look at the horizon rather than the ground in front of you. I was laid off for 1 year, but found a great position consulting ERP services and software. If I was under 40 I would not have this job, since I would not have the experiences garnered from the wide variety of positions I have held.

Best of luck!
