Migrating?
is only a bad idea when you have lots of custom software on an ms system, or linux system depending on wich way you are migrating. If you have mainstream software (office suites etc) migrating does not have to be half as bad as you suggest. Open office can easely read ms office documents and it allows you to save in ms format so migrating from open office to ms office would not be a problem either. Most databases have the abillity to export data in sql and it's even easier to write a few scripts that would port data back and forth between differen databases. If your using a database like oracle it's even easier to migrate from linux -> ms or ms->linux.

I think your statement is generalising and creates the false impression that in most cases it would be a bad idea to migrate from ms to linux.

Migrating always comes with cost no matter the direction of the migrating. The good news is that with linux you are most likely to earn back those cost while with ms the expenses just keep comming.
Want to pay more to get less? Take MS. You'll get some nice graphics in 2006 after wich you get to pay again when the rest of longhorn is finaly done. That's not a problem you have with linux. Sure some features can get delayed as well but you will not be forced to pay through the nose for them later on.
