It's neither...
It sounds like a problem with M$' support of DEP. The DVD decoder application just happens to use DEP, probably to ensure that no media contains "data" that will execute.

Seem a little fishy that Intel is late to the game with DEP, M$ is late to the game with 64-bit support and both are up against the AMD/Linux combo, which already have had support for both? If you can't keep up, cripple the competition?
