Hot, yes.
Sure it's hot. But usually when something gets popular, it's no longer hip or cool. I think what happened is that Apple finally found a decent price point (for them, not necessarily for the consumer).

But I will also concede that Apple's research into a decent UI for a portable music player has put the rest of the batch to shame. That alone could easily have put the iPod over the top. I prefer flexibility over proprietary formats, though, so I'll be sticking with something cheaper and a little more clunky for now. happy
