Yes it is but in reverse now....
Because it was amazing to see AMD's Athlon64 nailing Intel's Pentium 4.
We would still be stuck with that inefficient architecture if it weren't for AMD starting to erode Intel's market share ONLY because to that point Intel ALWAYS knew what was best for the Industry, Like RAMBUS memory only support for the Pentium 4 until they "caved", Intel's statement that they were NOT going to introduce a mixed 32/64 bit chip until the Athlon and Opteron were eating their lunch, The BTX platform was going to be the Industry standard (NOT!).

The only reason that Intel even worked toward the Core 2 program was because AMD forced them to put their mighty egos aside after they were losing the prestige as having the best of the best.

We did not even adopt the Pentium 4 until we had to because the Pentium III architecture was far more efficient and that is essentially what the core 2 is, a redesigned PIII with multiple cores.

Face it Intel was force feeding this JUNK via their threats and dare I say "Pay Offs" until mfrs finally had enough and started offering AMD for it's merits and not it's payoffs.
