Have you any idea why?
AMD needed patches to work certain games and even to run Windows (K6/2 @ 300MHz and faster on Win9x) due to the fact that lazy M$ programmers did not use monitors to see which process finished first.

They assumed first come, first served which was true with Intel but when AMD improved technology with independent multichannel processing and out-of-order processing and data pipelining and.... then Windows and certain games would crash because they were not coded with process monitors and certaininstructions ran so fast on AMD that they were completed before the program was ready for them.

The patches were merily the monitors that any good programmer would have coded. Since they were coding for WIntel, they sought they did not need them.

AMD processors proved too powerful for bad programmers, never too bad for good programmers.

BTW, have you heard the term "Pentium Microcode" before? Patches for Intel processors to work right with Windows and other apps!

That day has come and gone! AMD's are faster, Intel chips need patches.
