how long does your UPS last?
If you power gets knocked out for several days like it happens here in the midwest during winter your UPS will not work. Cellphones will need to recharged before power gets restored. all the carriers just want to be able to charge more for the samething. VOIP is not a magic bullet. It works better inside a company on a private network. Then on the public network. The internet is way too unrealiable for anything like that. maybe if the web doubles it's band width and adds a few more billion IP address, it might work.
