Is VoIP just chump change?

The biggest problems I've seen...

Internet congestion greatly effects the ability to have clear conversations. It is somewhat like talking to someone who is in another with those weird and unpredictable delays, sometimes garbled signal, etc. Or possibly like a crappy cell phone connection.

I think the next problem they face is with the fact that in the future, the internet will just keep getting more congested and as technology increases, it becomes more vulnerable to attack and sabotage.

I mean really, lets assume the worst here since we are one of the most hated countries in the world. Now, lets say about a good 90% of us either willingly move to VoIP, or perhaps phone companies jump on this and we are forced to move (ala Digital Cable). Well, we already have way to much dependancy on e-mail and other internet based activities. Now we trust our communication to them. Now lets assume the crafty terrorist cell that we train in our colleges and what-not, it part of this new generation of hacker than can cause a "shutdown" of the internet like people keep talking about...no phones, no e-mails, no internet transactions...our business and private lives would come to a stand still. Panic would set in shortly after. Or, lets go a different route. What if they shutdown power companies and cause blackouts in major cities. VoIP phone boxes no longer work...but regular old phones work in power outages.

I shudder to think about it...give me trusty phone lines anyday.
