LCD televisions DO last longer. I work for an audio video integrator, and I see the condition of plasma displays that have been installed for a few years. The screen suffer fron burn-in at an alarming rate. A plasma screen may look beautiful when it is new, but it looses its lustre after a couple years. And plasmas get HOT.

Also, the backlights on LCD displays can be replaced, but you can NOT do anything about a bad plasma.
