You're easily impressed.
IBM does not play in the commodity x86 based chip space. They do make the PowerPC G5 chip used in the MAC. If you can classify this as inferior engineering, you obviously don't know what you are talking about. AMD is a good company and is creating nice products. Unfortunately for them, they're constantly trailing both IBM and Intel in manufacturing technology and capacity. To say they have been "delivering superior products for the past (5) years" indicates you are somewhat uninformed on the subject. The Power 5 processor used in IBM's server lines is a generation or two ahead of anything from AMD.
