Telephone keypads
No, not my cellphone, the original touch-tone phone. What was it, 50 years ago, when the Phone Company decided to replaced telephone dials with buttons, there had been an international standard for number keypad layouts on adding machines for decades already. But Ma Bell, in her wisdom, ignored the standard and assembled focus groups of people who'd never used a keyboard to decide which layout was more intuitive. Now we have an established international standard layout for number keypads on telephones that is upside-down from the established international standard layout for number keypads on everything else in the world. Thanks a lot.
