Net loss of a cord = 1
If you buy a keyboard/mouse wireless combo then you only have one receiver unit with one cord - so, that's a net loss of 1 cord.

But it's not always about having the cord attached as it is being able to put the keyboard in your lap and lean back without worrying about the cable snagging.

Bluetooth can be truly wireless (from the computer to the input device) but it has it's own hassles.
