ECS makes horrible products - another story of getting what you pay for
ECS Elitegroup is one of THE bottom rung hardware manufacturers. I had the displeasure of using one of their motherboards about a year ago, and it was a total piece of garbage. Among other problems, it had a well known problem of feedback on the onboard audio that would react to hard drive activity and mouse movement.

$600 may seem like a good deal, but when you can get a much better laptop for a couple hundred more, it just isn't worth it. I spent $450 on a system that had a processor that was twice as fast (2.8 P4), and 4 times as much RAM, a 15 inch screen, and a quality brand name (Dell).

You don't have to buy the most expensive product on the market to be happy, but buying the least expensive will always net you the worst experience of all.
