HD DVD Dead on Arrival
This is pretty much the same argument that went on just before the standard for DVD was developed. Even then Toshiba was on the side that lost.

I have very mixed feelings about the need for either format, but I have followed the development of Blu-Ray technology. The start for the development of Blu Ray actually preceeded what we know as DVD, but it took time for the technology to advance to make it viable.

The support for HD DVD just simply does not seem to be there. Toshiba and NEC do not own anything in the entertainment business and they do not seem to have any support from the studios. Sony on the other hand obviously owns Sony Picture Studios. Panasonic still has some ties, as does Phillips to the entertainment industry.

It is obvious that it is time for NEC and Toshiba t fold their tent and move on. Their pushing of the HD DVD format will do nothing more than confuse the consumer in an already confusing situation.
