Why Do We Need 50 Gigs And DVD Commercials

We need a 50 gig disc because although WM-9 and MP4 can
hold a two hour HD Movie on a standard DVD, this level of
compression softens the picture and therefore creates an
inferior image when compared to the much higher data rate of
Mpeg 2. For example, you can buy a copy of T2 in HD windows
Media 9. Yet when compared to full banwidth Mpeg 2 HD it is
woefully deficient. To put this in comparison it is like listening
to MP3 encoded at 128K. While for casual listening in the car or
at the beach it sounds fine, on a nice quality sound system its
limitations can be heard. Thus, T2 in WM9 on a 34 inch HDTV
might look okay and certainly better than a standard DVD, on a
50 inch Plasma that can display a true HD image the T2 image
will look good but not give the "looking out the window"
experience that true HDTV is capable of.

Finally about DVD Commercials, most of these can be bypassed
by pressing the menu button a couple of times. Typically, the
only thing that can not be bypassed is the stupid FBI warning
about copy right infringements.
