"I've been trying Windows Media Center for a while on two PCs but I'm waiting for an HDTV version to make it the hub of my entertainment center."
Well whaddya know? Another twit being payed minimum wage to cheerlead for Microsoft in these precious forums. Enjoy your "media center", with its remote M$ control, remote M$ advertising, DRM, spyware, and all the other necessary things required to play and view media. Meanwhile back on earth I was able to do all the things you uselessly payed big money for. Guess what? I can pay back my CDs too, with some antiquated (but still widely used) device called a CD player. And I can even view my DVDs on this thing called a DVD player! Imagine that! And I am even still able to actually walk to each of these devices and set them up and use them as I please. But, and this is the sad part and I know the one that terrifies you and makes you feel like a little child alone in the wilderness: there's no Microsoft logo anywhere to be seen. Gadzooks!
