Microsoft doesn't get it...
Maybe it's because I don't want to turn on my TV, go through a whole boot-up process, then start mousing around and selecting things from menus just to listen to a $&^%## CD.

Do I also have to keep my TV on the whole time I'm listening to the CD, or can I switch it off?

Microsoft just doesn't grok some things and this is one of them. People outside of student dwellings like having different devices for different functions. Single function devices are simpler, and therefore easier to use.
