What is realistic?
When the first lasers were invented (1960) no one was able to put them to any practical use. In fact, the US military called lasers a solution in search of a problem. It wasn't until after the invention of integrated circuits, fiber optics and microcomputers that the laser came into its own. Now whole industries (CD, DVD, etc) owe their existence to the laser.

As this article points out, nanotechnology is still in the embryotic phase. Much fundamental research must still be done before the birth of any major practical applications.

I am certain, however, that thousands of uses will come. And just like electricity, internal combustion engines and lasers, they will change our whole world.
