- Miss estimate, change (lower) management
-
I notice that Carly Fiorina did not throw herself upon her sword.
A few key quotes:
Earlier Thursday, Hewlett-Packard warned that its most recent quarter's earnings would miss estimates because of weak performance in storage and servers. Fiorina promised that there would be "immediate management changes."
"We thank Peter, Jim and Kasper for their years of service and dedication," CEO Carly Fiorina said in the memo. "I look forward to working with our new CSG leaders."
All three executives who were ousted came from premerger Compaq Computer.
"Given the technology that they have in their portfolio and the engineering talents that they have, there aren't a lot of excuses for being where they are," said IDC analyst John McArthur. "They should have done better."
Sounds like Carly confused execution with executions. Unless she's a believer in the Darth Vader school of management. If she'd written, "... thank[s] for ... years of service and dedication ... Zap!! Whee haw!!!", then I'd be certain.
Think of the small huddle of former Compaq executives, restless, fearful, glancing out at the great dark woods wondering whence the next blast toward extinction will arise.
The conclusion is, lots of stuff to sell, not a very good job selling it.
Observation to the CEO throwing lesser execs off her sled to the wolves: after a while there's nobody left but you and the wolves. - Posted by: Anton Philidor Posted on: 08/12/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
