...in a similar way, this is also how telecom companies use the internet (not necessarily IP) to carry the voice data.
They certainly don't go using VoIP yet the taffic may be going down the same physical wires and through the same Medium Access Control sublayer albeit with reserved access.
So if telecoms access usage goes up, bandwidth for IP goes down... but thats no problem as in some place 90% capacity is not used.
