Really, Microsft has been trying to do too much to protect their monopoly, and is now fighting on way too many different fronts. They have hired way too many programmers in hopes of speeding projects up, but that just makes them later and hurts quality, already a problem. Right now, they are making money hand over fist, only based on lock-in from application compatibility, and file formats. Inovation is limited to areas that are good for Microsoft. New breakthrough technology that would weaken the monopoly is not considered, and if a competitor tries to introduce it, every attempt is made to kill it.

Well, I could talk about Intel too, but you get the idea.
