It is interesting to note that one of the big reasons that DAT tapes did not catch on was because the FCC mandated the equivilant the broadcast flag on it. Basically if you recorded onto a tape it impossible to make further copies on cusumer equipment. So in other words if you were recording a demo tape for your garage band you wouldn't be able to make copies of it.
