What's with this kick on digital copies. It doesn't matter. And yes you can make digital copies under fair use. Burning a CD for use in your car is perfect example and has been sighted as example under "Fair Use for Personal Enjoyment". Copying a CD is a perfect digital copy.
Now you can do it with a new VCR, somehow I doubt it will catch on though. For the same reason DAT tapes didn't. Tapes are a pain, rewinding and fastforwarding. Once you have CD or DVD players why go back to tapes. I remember tapes for the PC back in the late 70s for storage. We stopped using them because they were slow.
