OK, the analogy was supect.
No, I'm not in marketing.

The important point is that since we're discussing the x86 server market, the architecture is x86. For software types like myself, it matters not whether or not it's AMD or Intel inside. The code remains the same(compile for x86). For hardware types, the socket/processor is important. But that importance is only for the actual interfacing with the processor. Other than that, the hardware doesn't matter. So if you're a NIC maker, you don't care whether or not it's AMD or Intel. You only have to worry about the PCI specifications, assuming you make your NIC for PCI slots.
