Games have been doing this for years
Hate to break it to you, but this isn't really newsworthy. Games have been pushing hardware to the limits for years. I had to get a new video card in order to play C&C: Generals and Homeworld 2. And it's likely I'll have to upgrade again for newer games.

This has been going on for a while now, it's not news.
