No surprises...
`` Intel and server partners plan to launch the "Nocona" version of the Xeon processor for dual-processor servers on Monday, but a supporting chip called "Lindenhurst" that handles input-output chores has a flaw that in rare circumstances can cripple the computer, sources said Thursday. The problem means Intel will recommend against using adapter cards that plug into servers with the new PCI Express communications technology''

What happens when you OVER-stretch a VERY old architecture (xeon) with 64-bit extensions and try to let it use a NEW serial PCI technology? It is not surprising at all that there is a glitch.

It shows though that Intel is being pressed TOO hard to release a solution to directly compete with the more mature AMDs 64-x86 architecture.

Just do not panic there... you are already late so you might as well produce a RELIABLE solution. Don't just immitate MS....;-)

BTW MS is still struggling to release a 64 bit version for its 'OS' ... faithful to its well known crapmanship levels.
