- mac vs dell
-
I had the pleasure of using an apple ibook a few weeks back while I waited for my dell laptop to be repaired. Heres what I concluded:
1) The single button mouse sucked. It wasnt the lack of the second button as much as there being no scroll wheel. I promptly switched it for the Dell two button with scroll wheel mouse. The iBook picked it right up. Right mouse button worked the same as holding the Apple button and pressing the single mouse button.
2) The interface (OSX) annoyed me a bit. Im too used to a window toolbar. I was having problems switching between applications and could never tell if some were open or closed.
3) The browser, Safari, sucked. I had far too many problems getting pages to work or render correctly. I loaded Mozilla and had far fewer problems.
Now some good:
1) I only crashed it once. This was because I was loading X windows port to get Star Office to run. Other than that it ran and ran and ran.
2) Its very sleek looking. Much attention to the design was evident. I did have a problem where it heated up more than I would like which made using it in my lap while on flights or on my couch a bit hot.
3) Lighter than my Dell laptop.
4) OS-X, despite my comments above, has some nice features and is really easy on the eyes. - Posted by: OhMyGosh Posted on: 07/29/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
