Yup, the kernal is good.: "If you strip away GUI crap, the Windows NT kernel is very competent."

True, when they were developing OS/2 IBM developed the kernal and MS developed the GUI. They both released it in slightly different versions. IBM kept the GUI out of the kernal, and MS put the GUI into the kernal. So you're correct.
