Why Microsoft may be on board.

So Microsoft wants to be included, and they certainly have a right since they do handle software for the PC. However, at the same time, this may be a way for them to try to control the 'interoprability' between future PC and console games. Why would they like this? Because XBOX itself has many of the same calls as the PC windows gaming platform. They have an interest in having their specification be the one, and not one that Sony or Nintendo would truely like.

The future of gaming will be people running on PC's against consoles, and vica versa. That way the game software can go quickly to two platforms immediately. This is one Microsoft probably wants to control.

With them on board expect them to try to keep having 'open' panels where they exclude themselves but they put a moderator (maybe in the game developer arena) that then loads the panel with other PC, and XBOX game developers, and maybe only one or two Sony and Nintendo game developers as well.
