If that was the case, you wouldn't have BD drives for the PC and Blu-ray would be the one admitting defeat.

MS actually played the safe move by making it's HD-DVD offering on the Xbox 360 an optional add-on. They didn't bet the farm like Sony did with the PS3. Now they just need to contract out the BD drive (probably done already) and their no worse for wear. All the HD-DVD drives that are already in the warehouse makes a nice write-off.
