Why Linux is still not a viable choice
Linux proponents are stuck in the 90s. Back then they suggested people put Linux on old pcs to make them last forever, so they could break the software and hardware upgrading cycle. Their thinking is that most customers just browser the internet and check e-mail.

This completely ignores multimedia uses, and for that matter, at times printing!

When I tried Ubuntu on my Dell laptop, I couldn't print because there were no drivers for my All In One HP Printer. That was awhile ago.

Since they I bought myself a digital camera, an IPod, and I rent movies online from ITunes.

This multimedia functions are best done in either Windows or MacOs (my next laptop will be a Mac).

Linux still doesn't have enough hardware support, and enough multimedia support. While this could change, I have to deal with what's available now.

Linux is used on servers and supercomputers, but for the average consumer it will remain a hobbyist os until there is widespread hardware and multimedia support.
