Mary Jo;
My Microsoft rep came into my office the other day and I brought him into my lap where I along with my other lab (rats) techs have been working under a somewhat cladstine operation in testing out Asus' newest technology. You folks out here may have heard whispers of the dark works and projects called, "Aurora" and or "Area 51".
Of course in a couple of days or maybe a couple of weeks this will be everywhere as Asus will once again through Intel's "Project: Skinkworks" will put AMD on the mat for the "10 count."
Nevertheless, we are working on a computer, though not available or affordable for the public yet. It's comprised of a new architecture build around two quad-core 5.0Ghz liquid oxygen cooled system built by CoolMax and will be later released to the public sometime around March of 2010.
The memory is the experimental DDR 5 2.2Ghz that is optimized for the new Angus-Light Blue front side bus system. The Motherboard is made of a new technology of a graphite composite that is called "Blue Glass" technology and so are many of the solid state components that requires this cooling technology.
I cannot give specifics at this time, but a 5 kilowatt dual SLI PSU is required, and kudos to Ultra for the special manufacturing of this prototype. NVida is also responcible for their wonderful "Alien Vector Dual SLI and onboard controllers. So this machine works off of 4 ePCI cards. Though engineers are working on a plasma controller but what I've been told, this will not be ready yet for initial testing until August 2011. This new technology that is only possible by the liquid oxygen cooling system will deliver true 3 dimensional hologrammic images and there will be no need of any kind of traditional TFT, LCD, or plasma displays, so you might want to put this under your hat for now and hold off on buying any new 22 inch HD monitors.
Asus Alpha-Centuri that I built has 4 2.0 TB solid state 3.5" SATA III (SATA III will be made available in late 2009) drives by Seagate and again, I cannot disclose the technical data.
We also installed Windows Vista Ultimate x64, though our machine can actually run 128 bit applications just fine. My Microsoft Rep was impressed and he laid on us the final release of Vista SP-1 which I just installed. It took 7 minutes to install from start to finish, but if we disabled the administrative features, we could of got it installed in less than two minutes.
Needless to say, it works fine. We initially tried XP x64 but it ran so fast we had no choice but to slow the processing down so we can at least observe the data. My Rep from Microsoft has been there every step of the way to insure that Vista will load up, or attempt to load up the system with redundant features to slow this system down and put some processing load on our system that XP never could. It seems to me in my observation that the Vista operating system is a good fit for the technology. Through the heavy code, we can not only test the components running this redundancy, but the cooling system as well.
Now the good news for everyone here, I was assured by my Rep that the same version in both x86 and the x64 editions are already out on the streets and available to everyone for at least a year now.
So if you really want to put your systems to the test, you know for day to day activity, just get rid of XP and upgrade to Vista and it will make your new machine really work hard over the littlest of tasks. Least you will certainly know that your machine, your PC is working double-time for you -- No slacking with Vista!
Mary Jo, don't take just my word for it, take Vista for a spin yourself, and know in the very near future that some of this wonderful technology I am so blessed with working with will be sitting on your table soon! - Posted by: Kromaethius Posted on: 02/08/08 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
