It's not which format is better...
Both formats look great on a high def screen.
The real defect with BluRay is that Sony is the controlling force behind it. If they have their way, you will be paying for a BluRay every time you watch it. They just signed a deal with Divx. (Remember them? Buy a DVD and pay for it by internet every time you watch it?)

Please wake up, everyone. Observe the pattern Sony has followed and you will see from their actions that they will milk the consumer dry.
