We lose either way
Like most Americans, I've never watched a high-definition DVD on a high-definition television, and seeing the state of the economy, it will probably be a while before most of us can afford to see what we're missing.

All I know is that it's currently, time-consuming, troublesome and illegal to copy a movie from my DVD collection to my iPod. As I understand it, this won't change, no matter which format wins the standards war. Hence, the consumer loses either way.

It's interesting how easy it was to get an entire industry behind a push for high-definition video with its $2,000 TVs and $30 DVDs, but let someone speak praises for high-definition audio and they are basically laughed out of the room.

I really don't understand the difference here. I don't care what the resolution of the picture is, just give me ability to remove the commericals/previews and convert it to play on the device of my choosing and I'm all good.
