iPods
iPods definitely have a "cool" factor, but I think they're over-rated for several reasons:

1) No included radio tuner

I bought my mp3 player (a 20GB Neuros) based on the inclusion of an FM tuner. I don't want to have to carry around a separate radio, or pay extra for an add-on.

2) Proprietary file format (AAC)

While the iPod can play standard MP3 files, the iTunes store promotes AAC, which is just a bad format for users. It locks you into using only the iPod, unless you want to burn your songs onto disc and then rip them.

3) Expensive

It's more expensive than a comparable mp3 player from another manufacturer.

The iPod has one thing going for it: Size. And yet, there are players now that are smaller of comparable quality (e.g., Rio Karma).

I just see it as a lot of extra money to spend to look cool. Of course, if that's your thing, then by all means, buy one. Capitalism rules. happy
