Understanding "non-profit"
Non profit means that after the staff has been paid (many non-profit heads make 6 to 7 figures) and production costs have been met, then the remainder goes to the charity.

If it cost the company more to manufacture these laptops then they get in return, will the other companies that supply the part continue to do so if there is no money going to them? They have employees and loans of their own to take care of.

OLPC also wants to get out of the hardware manufacturing eventually, and focus on the software

I missed that part. where did you read that? Why does the OLPC even care about software? Pretty useless commodity if there is nothing to run it on? Or are you implying that the OLPC is nothing but a scam created in an attempt to put proprietary software out of business
