re bloated and slow fraid tis true
At work I moved to Vista from XP due to a previous machine dying and when ordering a replacement neglected to ensure that I chose XP.

My experience of Vista is that it does not have any significant features that improve the user experience and performance is not good compared to my home pc that has less ram and a slower dual core processor running XP.

In other respect have had backwards compatibility issues with both software and hardware that whilst I have managed to find workarounds are very annoying.

Security not an issue given that we have efficient AV and firewall etc in place.

Given that the all the above I am afraid that I think that the comments bloated and slow are correct and add on no significant additional functionality have got to say it is not a good operating system. My opinion may change if SP1 addresses these issues though.

For the record I have been using MS OS's for the last 20 years, good bad and indiferrent. Do not have an axe to grind other than I am not particularly pleased with Vista as an OS and would not upgrade my home machine until it too bites the dust as there is no pressing reason to do so.
